Early Rosehill double for Chris Waller

A week after finishing out of a place, Mamwaazel has turned that around to bring up an early Chris Waller-trained double at Rosehill.

Jason Collett's winning ride in the 1400m race for three-year-old fillies was a replica of Jim Cassidy's aboard Waller's first winner Sniper Fire who took out the 2YO Plate (1350m).

Collett eased Mamwaazel ($5) over from her wide barrier and sent her to the front and she maintained her position to hold the favourite Sugar Rush ($2.90) by a length with Romantic Moon ($21) another three-quarters of a length away.

"Jason took his time to get across and led by default," Waller said.

"He has good hands and he got the horse to settle. It was a great ride.

"I wondered whether she should back up but I have confidence in out system and it worked."

Earlier Cassidy steered Sniper Fire ($5.50) over from his wide alley and maintained a solid pace to keep Brazen Moss ($3.90) at bay by half a length.

Raced by Graham and Linda Huddy, Sniper Fire is by High Chaparral, the same sire as their now-retired star Shoot Out.

Waller said he believed Sniper Fire was typical of the breed and would now be given a break to prepare for his three-year-old season.

"He's done a good job to get this far but he needs a little time yet," he said.

Cassidy concurred, saying the gelding had a big future.

"He is by High Chaparral so for him to be doing what he is at two is just a bonus. It is good education for next preparation," Cassidy said.

"I didn't anticipate to lead. I just let him work to the front without any pressure.

"I squeezed him early but then he came back under me nice and it was then a matter of how far."
