Trainer Kelly Schweida has forgiven Cape Kidnappers his last-start failure and it appears punters have too with the gelding the early favourite for the Chief de Beers Handicap.

Cape Kidnappers was beaten out a place for the first time in 11 starts when seventh in the Bribie Handicap at Doomben two weeks ago.

Schweida is confident the six-year-old, who has won seven races, can bounce back and win the Chief de Beers Handicap (1110m) at the same track on Saturday.

"I was worried before his last start that he might have been a bit fat," Schweida said.

"He had a trial but you can't do much with him on the track between races."

"That run will have done him the world of good and I think you will see a different horse."

Schweida was pleased when Cape Kidnappers drew barrier four in the Chief de Beers.

Damien Browne will ride Cape Kidnappers and his stablemate Agitate who runs in the Queensland Day Handicap (1200m).

Agitate was a brilliant winner over 1100m at his last start but Schweida resisted the temptation to put him in the Chief de Beers.

"Cape Kidnappers and Agitate are raced in similar ownership and I didn't want them in the same race," he said.

"But more importantly I wanted to try Agitate at 1200 metres.

"I reckon he can take a sit if he has to. That is if anything can lead him."
