Junoesque gives Dean Lawson city boost

Wednesday 14 May 2014, 5:10pm

Dean Lawson admits he considered giving training away but he was happy to be back in the city winner's stall at Sandown on Wednesday.

Lawson had been training out of Flemington but has been based at Cranbourne since March where he leases three boxes.

The man who prepared multiple Group One winner Testa Rossa had reason to smile at Sandown as Junoesque resumed with a dominant three-length victory in the BMW Handicap (1200m).

Lawson said it was his first city winner since Underestimation's Anzac Day Stakes success in 2012.

"I've leased three boxes at Cranbourne and am really enjoying the change," Lawson said.

Junoesque was Lawson's first runner since he started training at Cranbourne nine weeks ago, and admitted the mare played a role in keeping him in the game after leaving Flemington.

"I probably wouldn't have been doing it if I didn't have a couple of horses that I think had ability. And obviously she's one of them," he said.
