Jamie Mott closer to jumps racing debut

Thursday 8 May 2014, 5:44pm

Jamie Mott has taken a big step towards his jumps racing debut but the jockey will be after success on the flat at Flemington.

Mott plans to mix flat and jumps racing during the winter months.

He completed the final four of 10 mandatory trials over jumps at Moe on Thursday.

The jockey expects to get his licence to ride over the fences rubber stamped on Friday.

Mott has three rides at Flemington on Saturday, including consistent three-year-old Written Up.

Mott has partnered the George Osborne-trained gelding in seven of his eight starts including victories in the Listed Bendigo Guineas in March and another over 1400m at Warrnambool last week with 60kg.

Written Up shares the second line of betting for Saturday's Secondbite Fresh Food Rescue Handicap (1400m) and Mott expects him to make his presence felt again.

"He has got to carry 60 (kilos) again and he's drawn a bad gate but George Osborne said he's improved again off Warrnambool so I'm sure he'll be right in the finish," Mott said.

Written Up has had six starts this year, missing a place just once, and Mott believes the gelding still has more to offer.

"I think even next time in he'll be a much better horse," he said.

"The beauty about him is he jumps well from the barrier and puts himself in a good spot.

"He's always fighting out the finish."

Mott had hoped to have completed 10 jumps trials a month ago and was glad to get it done on Thursday.
