Suegioo wins Chester Cup for Koukash

Thursday 8 May 2014, 9:42am

Charismatic owner Dr Marwan Koukash has won his third Chester Cup with Royal Ascot-bound Suegioo.

One of five runners for Koukash, the Marco Botti-trained Suegioo (10-1) swooped late to deny Angel Gabrial by half a length.

"The winner will probably go to Royal Ascot for the Ascot Stakes but I had five runners this year and all five will try to come back again," Koukash said.

"There are races like the Northumberland Plate and Cesarewitch that they can all run in but their programs will be built around coming back here next year."

Koukash also plans to take the Botti-trained Mount Athos back to Australia for a third tilt at the Melbourne Cup.

Mount Athos finished fifth at his first attempt in 2012 and third last year.
