Dwayne Dunn bags Caulfield treble

Saturday 3 May 2014, 6:09pm

Wet track specialist Onpicalo's victory at Caulfield has capped a successful day for jockey Dwayne Dunn who bagged a winning treble.

Dunn's winning haul included the feature race of the day, the Listed Thoroughbred Club Cup on Reparations, in between victories on three-year-old filly Griante and the Mick Price-trained Onpicalo.

Onpicalo was second-up in Saturday's BTB Australia Directional Drilling Hcp (1600m) and his liking for rain-affected ground was on display as he romped home to beat Pin Your Hopes by five lengths.

It was his third win from three attempts on slow tracks and he is also one from three on heavy ground.

After winning the previous race on Reparations, Dunn decided to stick close to the rail down the side of the course as others raced off the rail searching for better ground.

"He's a swimmer," Dunn said.

"He is limited on top of the ground but as soon as he gets a track like that he just goes to another level. So that's a big advantage for him heading into the next few months."

Dunn came back last month from four months on the sidelines with a neck injury and his Caulfield treble made it eight wins from seven race meetings since his return.

Onpicalo also brought up a third win for the day for Price across two states after two-year-olds Pressing and Cailin Miss claimed Listed race wins at Caulfield and Morphettville respectively.

Price thought Onpicalo might have been underdone for Saturday's race and said the win indicated the four-year-old was in for a good winter.
