Tooleybuc Kid gives Weir another winner

Saturday 3 May 2014, 2:54pm

Melbourne's premiership-leading trainer Darren Weir's big week has continued at Caulfield with Tooleybuc Kid living up to his short price with a convincing win.

The victory was Weir's 68th city win for the season and came after he dominated the Warrnambool carnival with seven winners across the three days.

His wins at the carnival included the $200,000 Warrnambool Cup with Akzar and the $100,000 Galleywood Hurdle with Gotta Take Care.

Sent out the well-supported $1.55 favourite in Saturday's William Buck Plate (2000m), Tooleybuc Kid moved into the race ominously approaching the home turn under apprentice Jye McNeil.

He stretched out in the straight to put 3-1/4 lengths on last year's South Australian Derby winner Escado ($9) with Mujadale ($13) third.

Tooleybuc Kid won at Caulfield on Easter Monday with apprentice Harry Coffey aboard.

With Coffey serving a careless riding suspension, the in-form McNeil took advantage of the opportunity to notch his 19th city win this season.

"I was confident a long way out," McNeil said.

"We got a nice trail up and he really cantered up to them on the turn. Once he let go he put the race away pretty quickly."

A week ago, Weir won the Group One Schweppes Oaks at Morphettville with May's Dream and came home from Warrnambool with a new Mercedes Benz car, a bonus for training four winners over the three days including one of the features.
