Johnson to make most of Eagle Farm chance

Thursday 24 April 2014, 12:37pm

Apprentice Janette Johnson will reach a defining moment in her career when she rides Our Radar O'Reilly at Eagle Farm on Saturday.

Our Radar O'Reilly will take on boom galloper Furbish in the Greenslopes Maternity Handicap (1300m).

Johnson has outridden her country and provincial allowances with 110 wins.

She is in the top 20 in the state-wide jockeys' premiership with 40 wins this season but 25 of those have been for her master, Gold Coast trainer Bryan Guy.

"Janette gets plenty of rides from outside stables when she is at the Gold Coast but away from here they seem to ignore her," Guy said.

"I can't work out why she doesn't have a full book in town each Saturday.

"She is strong, has ridden over 100 winners, and can still claim three kilos in town. One thing, there wouldn't be a harder worker in racing."

Guy agreed the ride on Our Radar O'Reilly for trainer Pat Duff would be an important one for Johnson's city aspirations.

Duff also has a big wrap on Johnson who won on Abu Ben Adam for him at the Gold Coast last week.

"I have been impressed with her riding for a good while but haven't really had a city chance for her until now," Duff said.

Jim Byrne rode Our Radar O'Reilly when third at Eagle Farm over 1000m last week but has elected to stick with Furbish.

"It is no secret I have a wrap on Our Radar O'Reilly and he pulled up well from last week's run," Duff said said.

"He will carry the minimum after Janette's claim and I think he is the main danger to Furbish."

The Allan Denham-trained Furbish won his only start two weeks ago and has remained in Queensland to chase QTIS bonus money.
