Gear addition works a treat for Ms Mazetti

Saturday 19 April 2014, 1:50pm

Two clashes have shown there is little between Ms Mazetti and Inkulu, the first two home in Saturday's Jack Elliott Handicap at Caulfield.

Ms Mazetti had a neck to spare over Inkulu when the pair finished second and fourth respectively on debut at Moonee Valley on March 29.

Punters also thought there was nothing between the pair, sending out Inkulu as a $3.80 favourite while Ms Mazetti started at $4.

Ms Mazetti held off the Darley youngster Inkulu to score by a head in their latest meeting and trainer Robert Smerdon said jockey Mark Zahra's suggestion to add headgear to the filly made the difference.

Smerdon took Zahra's advice Ms Mazetti's raced in a visor.

"Even though the second horse (Inkulu) was unlucky at Moonee Valley, I was confident with the improvement this filly had made that she'd beat him," Smerdon said.

"She only just beat him so maybe they've progressed in a similar way."

Smerdon said he had no plans for Ms Mazetti but was keen to secure a value-boosting stakes win for the Lonhro two-year-old.

"An opportunity to get black type for a filly is very important," Smerdon said.

"At this age, they are more likely to get black type than later on."
