Jamie Kah edges closer to outriding claim

Saturday 5 April 2014, 5:32pm

The biggest win of Jamie Kah's fledgling career has edged the apprentice closer to outriding her claim.

Kah guided the Mick Price-trained Worth A Ransom to a 1-1/4 length victory in Saturday's $250,000 VOBIS Gold Reef (1600m) at Flemington.

It takes the 18-year-old apprentice to within two city wins of outriding her allowance.

Kah already has an Adelaide jockeys' premiership in the bag from last season, and has set her sights on being a success in Melbourne.

"Ultimately I'd like to stay in Melbourne if I can after I outride my claim. It all depends on how many rides I can get after that," said Kah, who is on a three-month loan to the Price stable.

"I'm getting rides now with my 1-1/2 kilo claim, but I'll just see how I go afterwards."

Worth A Ransom ($16) won a race at Wangaratta in the VOBIS Gold series this preparation and bounced back on Saturday from a last-start failure in the Bendigo Guineas on a wet track.

Favourite Trust In A Gust ($3.50) went back from a wide gate and flashed home from near the tail of the field for second, 1-1/2 lengths ahead of Bendigo Guineas winner Written Up ($9) third.
