Queensland planning for Eagle Farm revamp

Sunday 23 March 2014, 1:14pm

The Brisbane Race Club should learn the extent of state government support for the Eagle Farm track redevelopment this week.

Plans are already in place to shut down Eagle Farm, Queensland's premier racetrack, for six months and completely restructure the course proper after the winter carnival.

Eagle Farm, which has basically had the same racing surface for 160 years, is in urgent need of a revamp both on and off the racetrack.

The state government has indicated it will support the re-development but has not said to what extent.

However, with all race dates for the 2014-15 season scheduled to be released by March 31, it seems a government announcement is imminent.

Racing Queensland chief executive Darren Condon said it was hoped there would be an announcement this week but in a fortnight at the latest.

"At this stage we plan to race at Doomben most Saturdays apart from a few at the provincial tracks," Condon said.

"Ipswich, Caloundra and the Gold Coast will share the midweeks."

Meanwhile, RQ's battle to get up to $150 million from TattsBet for allegedly unpaid fees will resume in the Supreme Court on Friday.

RQ is expected to file its case at the hearing.
