Shadowside earns spell despite Farm win

Saturday 22 March 2014, 2:33pm

Trainer Kelly Schweida's roller-coaster week continued when Shadowside won at Eagle Farm on Saturday.

Schweida's week began with the news promising stayer Secret Harmony had suffered an injury which could put him out for a lengthy period.

It was followed on Wednesday at Doomben by a win for Righteous Miss and then one of Schweida's better horses, Tiger Dimejan, won on protest.

To complete his day, Schweida's expensive filly Rock Me Fast was rated a certainty beaten in a later race.

Shadowside ($3.60) scored by a short half-head to Sambuca Shot ($61) with 1-1/2 lengths to No Problem ($4.40) in the Powerade Handicap (1400m).

"Yes, there were a few ups and downs on the Wednesday but we have started on an up today," Schweida said.

Despite the fighting win, Schweida is keen to send Shadowside for a spell which means the two-year-old would miss the winter carnival.

"I was going to spell him before this run but I wanted to see how he would handle the 1400 metres," Schweida said.

A good barrier paved the way for Terms of Trade ($8) to return to the winners' circle in the Waves Handicap (1000m).

Trainer Kelso Wood admitted he had been worried about the weight Terms Of Trade had been asked to carry.

"But he drew the inside barrier and that cancelled it out. I have always thought he would work his way through to open company and I might step him up to 1200 metres now," Wood said.
