Crecy to be pacemaker for Treve

Wednesday 5 March 2014, 9:30am

Treve will have the aid of a classy pacemaker for her upcoming campaign in the shape of Irish Group Two winner Belle De Crecy.

Sheikh Joaan Al Thani, owner of the brilliant unbeaten Arc winner, has purchased the former Johnny Murtagh-trained mare from Andrew Tinkler.

While Belle De Crecy's first priority is to work with Treve in her races, starting with the Prix Ganay at Longchamp next month and the Prince of Wales's Stakes at Royal Ascot, it is hoped she, too, can land a Group One success to enhance her value as a potential brood mare.

"She's a lovely mare and Criquette (Head-Maarek, trainer) wanted a pacemaker - something to take Treve along - and you've got to have a high-class horse to do that when you've got a horse as good as Treve," Sheikh Joaan's racing advisor Harry Herbert said.

"She ticked all the right boxes and if you're going to spend a bit of money on an animal, what better than a filly like her who is very good in her own right and could win a Group One herself?

"She's already won the Group Two Blandford Stakes and was second in the Group One Fillies and Mares at Ascot on Champions' Day.

"Treve is in fantastic form and Criquette is very happy with her. At the moment she's on course to run at the end of April in the Ganay."
