James McDonald on Nayeli in Blue Diamond

Tuesday 11 February 2014, 5:24pm

James McDonald will ride unbeaten filly Nayeli in the Group One Blue Diamond Stakes.

The Gai Waterhouse-trained filly is on the third line of betting for Saturday week's $1 million race at Caulfield behind Prelude winners Earthquake and Rubick.

Waterhouse is chasing her first Blue Diamond Stakes victory having finished second with fillies Wager in 2004 and No Looking Back in 2012.

McDonald is looking forward to the race but admits Nayeli will be taking on a quality field headed by Earthquake and Rubick.

"She is unbeaten but it's going to be a pretty good field," McDonald said.

"She's definitely in with a chance."

McDonald has not ridden Nayeli in either of her two starts but has ridden the filly in trackwork early in her campaign.

Tommy Berry steered Nayeli to a debut win on Randwick's Kensington track last month while Vlad Duric was aboard when she stamped her Blue Diamond credentials with a 2-1/4 length win over Bugatty in the Group Three Chairman's Stakes (1100m) at Caulfield on February 1.
