Oliver rides winner before the Cup

Tuesday 6 November 2012, 2:29pm

Embattled jockey Damien Oliver has shown no signs of stress with a cool ride on Walk With Attitude to win the Listed Hybrid Plate at Flemington.

The Darren Weir-trained filly is owned by Gerry Ryan for whom Oliver will ride Americain in the Melbourne Cup on a day filled with controversy for the jockey.

Allegations Oliver had placed a bet on a rival horse in a race two years ago were compounded by reports in Fairfax Media he had admitted his guilt to an investigative panel.

His riding skills were to the fore when he brought Walk With Attitude with a well-timed run to overhaul Thunder Rain in the closing stages of the 1400m race.

"It's great to ride a winner for Gerry Ryan," Oliver said.

"He has been a great supporter of mine."

Ryan called on Oliver after he sacked Gerald Mosse from Americain following the horse's fourth in the Caulfield Cup.

He said on Tuesday he had no doubt Oliver would be focused on his job and he had booked the best jockey for his horse.
