Nash Rawiller lands treble at Canterbury

Wednesday 5 February 2014, 5:55pm

Joe Pride and Nash Rawiller combined for a Canterbury winner but they will be in separate camps for the first weight-for-age event of the Sydney racing carnival on Saturday.

Rawiller brought up a winning treble at the Sydney midweek meeting on Wednesday on the Pride-trained Society Man in the Congrats @ Vinery Handicap (1250m).

Continuing a run of on-pace winners for Rawiller - and the meeting in general - Society Man denied Commanding Wit to keep the leading rider hot on the trail of Hugh Bowman in the Sydney jockeys' premiership.

"He was going to get beaten three times by the runner-up," Rawiller said.

Society Man's win followed a perfect start to the day for Rawiller who steered the Chris Waller-trained two-year-old Brazen Beau to victory in the opening race before successfully combining with Knight Templar for trainer Marc Conners.

Rawiller took his season's tally to 34 winners, one behind Bowman and if Expressway Stakes bookmakers are right, he could be on equal terms with his rival after Saturday's meeting at Randwick.

He will replace the suspended Glyn Schofield on Boban, the early favourite in the Group Two sprint.

And his main threat is expected to come from the pin-up horse of Pride's stable, front-running sprinter Rain Affair, a Tim Clark mount.

Rawiller won last year's Missile Stakes on Rain Affair in his first ride on the six-year-old but he is looking forward to being reunited with Boban after the Waller galloper swept all before him during the spring in Sydney and Melbourne.
