Brigantin out of Queen Elizabeth Stakes

Tuesday 6 November 2012, 1:17pm

French stayer Brigantin won't take any further part in the Melbourne spring after suffering a minor leg injury during trackwork on Tuesday.

It was the latest blow for his connections who had hoped to run him in the Melbourne Cup, only for the entire to fail to make the final field.

Brigantin, who was third in the Geelong Cup at his only Australian start, was due to contest Saturday's $250,000 Queen Elizabeth Stakes (2600m) at Flemington.

He will also miss the chance to claim a $100,000 bonus for any horse balloted out of the Melbourne Cup who can win the Group Three race.

A total of 24 nominations have been received for the Queen Elizabeth including internationals Lost In The Moment and Shahwardi, impressive Bendigo Cup winner Puissance De Lune and last year's Queen Elizabeth winner Ironstein.

The Group One $1 million Emirates Stakes (1600m) has attracted 30 entries including Epsom Handicap winner Fat Al, Queenslander Solzhenitsyn and emerging talent Fawkner.
