Colless rates Agitate the fastest

Saturday 1 February 2014, 3:00pm

BRISBANE Feb 1 AAP - Vastly experienced jockey Glen Colless has rated three-year-old colt Agitate the fastest horse out of the barriers he's ever ridden.

Colless and Agitate ($1.80) combined to make short work of a field of older sprinters in the Canadian Club Hcp (1020m) at Doomben on Saturday.

A son of noted speed sire Sequalo, Agitate carved out the trip in 58.1, but the impressive thing was his final 600m time of 32.9.

Agitate had won a Doomben trial on January 21 in scintillating style and he ran right up to that on Saturday.

Colless said Agitate had put a couple of lengths on the field after it had gone 200m.

"I have ridden some good old fast flying horses but none would match him out of the barriers," Colless said.

Never-the-less the in form jockey said he felt Agitate would handle 1200m.

"I won on him as a two-year-old over 1200m and on that day he got in behind them and settled," Colless said.

Trainer Kelly Schweida is keen to chase QTIS incentive bonus money with Agitate.

QTIS is for two and three-year-old Queensland bred horses and Agitate has only six months until he turns four.

"I scratched him from a QTIS race last Sunday because of the wet and barrier but QTIS is what we are aiming at now," Schweida.

Meanwhile, trainer Rex Lipp is keen to give two-year-old filly Sarisara her chance at the winter carnival after he win in the Powerade Hcp (1110m).

Sarisara is now likely to go for a break before being aimed at races such as the BRC Sires (1400m) in May.

"The carnival is just around the corner and you have to give them a break now to have them back in time," said Lipp who won the BRC Sires with Star Shiraz in 2004.
