Lloyd after Durban July breakthrough

Friday 30 July 2010, 4:46pm

Jeff Lloyd, the international jockey who rode successfully in Sydney between 2007 and 2009, will be out to end one of South African racing's most frustrating losing streaks on Saturday.

Lloyd, who has been holidaying in Australia since the end of the Hong Kong season, will be trying to win the famous Durban July for the first time.

Veteran jockey Lloyd has finished third no less than eight times in South Africa's biggest race.

The South African will ride River Jetez, a six-year-old mare lining up for her third attempt at the race.

River Jetez is one of four runners for trainer Mike Bass and with 55kg is regarded as the weight horse of the 2200-metre race.

Mike de Kock will saddle up seven runners while Herman Brown, who trained Mourilyan to finish third in last year's Melbourne Cup, will be represented by Orbison.

The de Kock-trained Irish Flame is the 9-2 favourite with Lloyd's mount on the third line of betting at 6-1.
