Rocky King lands another 1000m win

Saturday 25 January 2014, 3:37pm

BRISBANE Jan 25 AAP - Tough gelding Rocky King overcame a back injury to confirm his rating as one of Australia's most consistent 1000m horses on Saturday at Eagle Farm.

Rocky King ($4.60) made it 10 wins from 15 starts in 1000m-1050m races when he scored by 1-1/2 lengths to Seeking More ($3.70) in the Channel 7 Open (1000m).

The win also took his record at the Eagle Farm 1000m to five wins and two seconds from nine starts.

Rocky King was well beaten at his previous start when fifth in the Bat Out of Hell (900m) at the Gold Coast but trainer Tom Bourke said the gelding suffered a back injury in that race.

He said a chiropractor worked on Rocky King him for a few days after the Bat Out Of Hell.

"At the Gold Coast he was a bit dull in the coat and I thought he looked a lot brighter in the enclosure today," Bourke said.

The handicapper will decide if Rocky King has his next start in another open (1000m) at Eagle Farm in two weeks.

Rocky King's jockey Damian Browne completed a winning double when beautifully bred gelding Zellaro kept up his family's impeccable record in the Coke Zero Plate (1600m).

The Stuart Kendrick-trained Zellaro is by Lonhro out of Mamzelle Pedrille making him a full brother to the Group Two Chelmsford Stakes winner O'Lonhro.

Mamzelle Pedrille, herself a Group Two winner, has had eight horses to race and they have now all won.

Caloundra trainers won the first three races, with Len Treloar saying he will resist the temptation to spell No Problem ($6.50) after the colt's win in the Ambassador Travel Two Year Old (1200m).
