Steven King returns after foot injury

Tuesday 21 January 2014, 3:39pm

Steven King will make his return to race riding at Seymour after spending nine months recovering from injuries suffered in a fall at Ballarat.

King, who boasts wins in the Melbourne Cup, Cox Plate and Caulfield Cup, says he is excited about return on Thursday.

He has been riding trackwork for the past couple of months after a quicker than expected recovery from a foot injury suffered on April 21.

King broke four metatarsal bones when Oltre Finito veered into the running rail after winning his race, dumping the jockey.

"My foot is fine," King told Sydney's Sky Sports Radio.

"I've done plenty of trackwork and jump-outs and now I just need to get my race fitness.

"I am about 57-1/2 kilos after getting up to 62 which is the heaviest I have ever been in my career.

"Once I get back to riding in races that will come down even further."

King went to Moe on Tuesday to ride in barrier trials for trainer Stephen Brown and as two rides for another Flemington trainer, Steve Richards, at Seymour - Timah and Rivonia.
