Zydeco a firm Oaks favourite after draw

Monday 5 November 2012, 12:04pm

Impressive Wakeful Stakes winner Zydeco heads a field of 15 three-year-old fillies to accept for the VRC Oaks at Flemington on Thursday.

Zydeco, trained by Anthony Freedman for Sheikh Mohammed, will start from the middle of the field in gate seven for the $1 million classic.

She maintained a firm grip on Oaks favouritism after the draw with Demi Demi, who has drawn out in gate 12, the $4.20 second favourite.

Dear Demi was rated the unlucky Wakeful runner on Saturday when she finished fourth - three lengths behind Zydeco.

Summerbliss, who will be facing the starter for only the third time in the Oaks, is a $5.50 chance after drawing the rails with Craig Williams to ride.
