Jamie Kah has put any ambitions of back-to-back Adelaide premierships to one side to try her luck in Melbourne.

The talented 18-year-old apprentice is hoping to make an impact at Flemington on Saturday having embarked on a month-long loan stint with prominent Caulfield trainer Mick Price.

Kah has made a big impression in a short time in South Australia, winning last season's statewide jockeys' title as well as claiming the Adelaide metropolitan jockeys' premiership as an apprentice in her first full season of race riding.

She is one win behind Clare Lindop in this season's Adelaide premiership but with her Melbourne stint, and an upcoming trip to ride in Singapore for three weeks as a reward for being Dux of the Adelaide apprentices school, she said premiership ambitions would most likely be put on hold.

"I could stay in Adelaide and maybe get the premiership again this year, but I want to give this a go before my claim goes," Kah said.

Kah and Price discussed a loan stint previously but the timing had not been right until now.

"I just never got time to go there with the premiership and things last year," Kah said.

"I wanted to aim at that (premiership), and now we just thought it was the perfect time before I outride my claim.

"I've only got eight winners left."

Kah has three rides at Flemington including Mandla and Eximius for Price.

She said she would like to return to Melbourne for a few months after her Singapore trip, and could potentially make a permanent move in the future.

Mandla has won its past three starts at the provincials including two from two this campaign and the four-year-old gelding is the $2.80 favourite in the Leonard Handicap (1410m).

Kah admitted last season's premiership-winning feat exceeded her expectations.

"I never thought I could do that in my first year," she said.

"But it's definitely kick-started anything I want to do here (in Melbourne). Adelaide has been a terrific start for me."
