Text'n Hurley sends out the right message

Monday 23 December 2013, 4:10pm

Text'n Hurley returns to racing on Thursday with trainer Colin Little making middle-distance plans for the mare.

The four-year-old, who disappointed with her 12th behind Commanding Jewel in the Group Two Let's Elope Stakes on September 7, resumes in the Allan Wicks Handicap (1200m) at Caulfield.

She trialled at Pakenham on a track bordering on heavy two weeks ago, finishing fourth of five starters but Little says the mare was given an easy time.

"She cantered around - we didn't want to risk her on the heavy track," Little said.

"She's come on well since then but she's looking for a lot more ground.

"You wouldn't think 1200 metres would be her cup of tea and she might even get right out to 2000 metres."

Little prefers to forget her effort in the Let's Elope, saying she was never going to go on after the Flemington race.

"We rolled the dice and gave her a last run (for the campaign) in that race but it was coming back from 1600 metres to 1400 metres," he said.

"They ran her off her feet at Flemington - they just went too quickly for her."

Text'n Hurley had been impressive in winning three in a row, including twice at Caulfield in July and August, before that.

Little will see what Text'n Hurley can come up with before looking ahead to the feature races in autumn.

He said some of Text'n Hurley's owners also had shares in Shamus Award and they were happy to give the colt's Cox Plate-winning jockey Chad Schofield the ride on the Thursday.
