Forget Maybe chasing Rosehill consolation

Friday 29 November 2013, 1:32pm

Anthony Cummings's Melbourne Cup carnival ended with two stakes wins, a Victoria Derby placing and one missed opportunity.

From 12 runners over the four days at Flemington, Cummings prepared Fontelina for his second Yellowglen Stakes victory and Surge Ahead to win a VRC Oaks day support race.

The Randwick trainer also went close in the Victoria Derby with Thunder Fantasy finishing third.

But his return could have been even better if Fastnet Rock colt Forget Maybe colt hadn't been ruled out behind the starting stalls on the last day of the carnival.

"He must have cracked something in his nasal passage on the way to the barrier because he had some blood in his nose and was scratched," Cummings said.

Cummings thinks highly of Forget Maybe. So much so, he nominated the three-year-old for the Group One Kingston Town Classic.

The Perth race is out of the reckoning but Cummings has set Forget Maybe for a consolation win against his own age at Rosehill on Saturday.

"He had a nice couple of gallops in Melbourne and another since he's been back," Cummings said.

"He's in good shape and I think he should be very competitive."

Forget Maybe underlined his promise at his first start when he overcame a wide run to win at Warwick Farm last month.
