Black Caviar's sister appears in jump-out

Friday 22 November 2013, 5:38pm

As her younger brother continues to battle laminitis, Belle Couture has made her first public appearance in a jump-out at Flemington.

A half-sister to champion Black Caviar, three-year-old Belle Couture is slated to make her long-awaited debut during the summer.

BC3 Thoroughbreds own the Redoute's Choice filly out of Helsinge and her brother "Jimmy", who became the highest-priced yearling sold at public auction in Australia when he fetched $5 million at the Easter sale.

The colt remains at the Werribee Veterinary clinic where his condition is unchanged.

After being treated for a bite from a white-tailed spider, Jimmy suffered an adverse reaction to antibiotics and developed the life-threatening hoof disease laminitis.

Belle Couture, a $2.6 million Easter yearling in 2012, came back to the Flemington stable of Cox Plate-winning trainer Danny O'Brien a few weeks ago and Damien Oliver partnered her to her second in Friday's jump-out.

O'Brien said the filly was not pushed and he was pleased with her performance behind an unidentified horse from Anthony Freedman's stable.

"It was her first ever jump-out so it was a lot about just learning," O'Brien said.

"Apart from being a bit slow out of the gate, it was pretty good. She mustered speed, travelled pretty easily and Damien Oliver was very positive about her.

"Really, I could not have asked her to do any more. She's got a bit more to learn, but hopefully she will be at the races in December."

Black Caviar, who was retired earlier this year unbeaten from 25 starts, has tested in foal to Exceed And Excel.
