Scream Machine set to go one better in Cup

Friday 22 November 2013, 12:20pm

Scream Machine a close second in last year's Goulburn Cup, has the opportunity to make up for the narrow defeat in Sunday's $100,000 feature race.

The five-year-old is at peak fitness following four starts back from a spell which include a third in the Newcastle Cameron and seventh in the David Jones Cup at Caulfield.

Twelve months ago, Scream Machine failed by a neck to catch Kinnersley before going on to win the Wagga Gold Cup in May.

Top jockey Tommy Berry will be striving to win his second consecutive Goulburn Cup (1600m) with Taxmeifyoucan.

The early scratching of Home On A Wing has allowed jockey Peter Robl to take the ride on Glad You Called.

Robl said it was a difficult field to line up with so many chances.

"The horse that gets the luck and the best ride will win because there isn't a lot between them," he said.

There could be a couple of extra scratchings with Any Day Will Do and Capital Commander also acceptors at Randwick on Saturday.

Goulburn chief executive Greg Wilson said another quality field will contest the Cup.

"It's our biggest meeting of the year with better horses, jockeys and trainers making the trip," he said.

"There is $235,000 prizemoney in total and we have a lot of the top trainers with runners.

"Guy Walter has eight and Gerald Ryan six and a lot of others have a few runners each."

Walter won three races at the corresponding meeting last year and will again be a force.

The other feature race is the $30,000 Goulburn Diva which has attracted a field of 12 fillies and mares.
