Boss claims Bendigo Cup on import

Glen Boss has played another starring role in a feature race with his dashing victory aboard Puissance De Lune in Wednesday's Listed Bendigo Cup.

Boss, who won Saturday's Cox Plate on Ocean Park, steered the French import across from his wide draw to sit outside race leader Fiumicino.

Puissance De Lune relaxed beautifully in the run and kicked clear shortly after straightening to score a runaway win.

"He was very strong to line," Boss said.

"As soon as I clicked him up he came straight on the bridle and I thought 'that's it' because he'd done no work."

Puissance De Lune is raced by prominent owner Gerry Ryan who is hoping the lightly-raced five-year-old can develop into a Melbourne Cup contender next spring.

"I think he's a serious horse," Ryan said.

"The Bendigo Cup this year and (form expert) Deane Lester always said next year we'd have a tilt at the Cup."

Ryan has ruling favourite Americain in this year's Melbourne Cup.

The Bendigo Cup (2400m) was Puissance De Lune's fourth win from seven starts under Australian trainer Darren Weir.

Weir confirmed he would likely press on to the Queen Elizabeth Stakes (2500m) during the Flemington carnival and a victory in that would qualify him for next year's Melbourne Cup.

"I guess that's the dream but we'll see what happens and just enjoy the day," Weir said.

Puissance De Lune started the $3.40 favourite and scored by eight lengths from Practiced with veteran Fiumicino holding on for third another short half head away.
