Rawiller bounces back with VRC Oaks win

Thursday 7 November 2013, 5:34pm

Any disappointment Nash Rawiller had about being sacked as the rider of Melbourne Cup winner Fiorente was all but erased by his VRC Oaks triumph on Kirramosa at Flemington on Thursday.

Rawiller was Fiorente's jockey early in his spring preparation but had to watch Tuesday's Cup from the grandstand as Damien Oliver guided the Gai Waterhouse-trained import to victory.

Kirramosa gave Rawiller his second Group One success this week after his win on Red Tracer in the Myer Classic last Saturday.

"I was over it three weeks ago," Rawiller said of losing the Fiorente ride.

"We all knew how confident I was going into the Melbourne Cup, so it wasn't like I was hoping he would get beaten because I just thought he would win.

"I suppose it's not how you get kicked down, it's how you get back up again."

Rawiller was once Waterhouse's No.1 stable rider but he is spreading his talents among other trainers.

He said he still rides work for her and is more than happy to do so.

"I love riding for her and I think I ride better for her than anyone," Rawiller said.

"But there's plenty of other good trainers that are going to use my services too, so I'm happy to sort of spread myself and let them support me as well."
