Chief steward praises clean Cup

Tuesday 5 November 2013, 5:57pm

Chief steward Terry Bailey has described this year's Melbourne Cup as the cleanest he has seen since his first year in the job when Makybe Diva won the race for a record third time in 2005.

"They came down the straight like choirboys," Bailey said.

The only suspension out of the race was to Rhys McLeod on Ethiopia who interfered with Sea Moon 200 metres after the start.

McLeod was sidelined for 10 meetings but will be able to take his rides on Oaks Day on Thursday.

He will be back riding in time for the Sandown Guineas meeting at Caulfield on November 16.

Two other jockeys - Gerald Mosse and Brett Prebble - were fined $1000 for overuse of the whip.
