Oliver caps Cup day with another winner

Tuesday 5 November 2013, 5:44pm

Damien Oliver didn't have long to savour his Melbourne Cup victory on Fiorente - he was back in the winner's stall two races later.

The champion jockey backed up his Cup success with a victory for trainer Tony Vasil on Richie's Vibe in the MSS Security Sprint (1200m).

"I've been walking on air for the last hour or so. Don't pinch me, I hope it's not a dream," Oliver said.

Vasil is Richie's Vibe's third trainer this preparation after Byron Cozamanis and Paul Beshara, the latter having been disqualified for six months in October after stewards found him guilty of treating subsequent Cox Plate runner-up Happy Trails on race day.

It was a gritty win for the four-year-old who was well back in the field at the 400m before mounting his challenge down the long Flemington straight.

He arrived in time to win by a short head from Sea Lord ($51) with Pago Rock ($7) third.
