Favourite Fiorente draws well in Melb Cup

Saturday 2 November 2013, 6:55pm

The Gai Waterhouse-trained Fiorente has maintained Melbourne Cup favouritism after the barrier draw for Tuesday's $6.2 million race.

Last year's runner-up drew barrier five in the 24-horse field to keep his place at the top of betting charts.

His stablemate Tres Blue didn't fare so well after drawing gate 20.

The 2011 winner Dunaden has drawn the rails while Saturday's Lexus Stakes winner Ruscello will start from the extreme outside draw.

Green Moon will be trying for back-to-back wins in the race from stall 10.

His Caulfield Cup-winning stablemate Fawkner will start from gate eight.

English football star Michael Owen drew gate six for his highly credentialled stayer Brown Panther.

The Luca Cumani-trained Mount Athos, one of the most significant firmers during the week, has gate 22.
