Silversands maintains Adelaide run

Saturday 26 October 2013, 1:06pm

A night of disappointment turned into a day of success for owner and breeder Alan Green thanks to the win of Silversands in the Inglis Banner (1000m) at Moonee Valley.

And the victory in the $250,000 race could be the start of a big day for Green and his Echo Beach Bloodstock.

Green is a part-owner of Friday night's beaten Manikato Stakes favourite Samaready who was found to have suffered an internal haemorrhage in the unplaced run.

He is also a part-owner of the Cox Plate runner Masked Marvel and Seville.

"That was a good fluke, I'm not so worried about the others now," Green said after Silversands saluted.

Green also bred Silversands who came to the Valley with the advantage of a run in Adelaide the gave her the edge over her mostly unraced rivals.

The win also maintained a strong Melbourne spring for Adelaide trainers who have presented such horses as Eclair Big Bang, Molto Bene, Hucklebuck and Happy Trails to win feature races.

"It just shows that you shouldn't underestimate us," said trainer David Jolly.

Silversands ($31) weaved through the field to snatch a long neck victory from the favourite Donelle ($4.20) with Cornrow ($12) hanging on for third a further half head away.

Winning jockey Michael Walker said the victory came despite the filly's inexperience.

"She was off the bit for a long way and she didn't really know how to chase," Walker said.

"But to her credit she knew how to take her chance when it came."
