Waterhouse content as Tres Blue settles in

Wednesday 23 October 2013, 2:33pm

French import Tres Blue is back in the good books with trainer Gai Waterhouse.

"When he arrived (on Saturday) he was very narky. He was like a fruit out of season and wasn't at all happy but he's really turned around and is eating enormously," Waterhouse said.

"That's what I want him to do. I want him like that on Tuesday week. I can't tell you how excited I am by this horse."

Tres Blue, runner-up in this year's German Derby, will make his Australian debut in the Melbourne Cup.

The entire has won four of his 10 starts including his past two in France over 2500m in Group Two and Three company.

"He's still quite a young horse, he's only three in Europe and you can see when you look at the other horses compared to Tres Blue still how immature he is," Waterhouse said.

"But I hark back to when I had a horse like Nothin' Leica Dane and he ran (in the Melbourne Cup) and he didn't have the preparation this horse has had.

"This horse has had a sensational preparation for the Cup."

Waterhouse trained Nothin' Leica Dane to finish second in the 1995 Melbourne Cup as a three-year-old.
