Heathcote hopes Fifi fires at Caulfield

Robert Heathcote hopes his successful spring carnival continues at Caulfield on Saturday when last-start winner Fire Up Fifi takes aim in a competitive Group Two Tristarc Stakes.

Fire Up Fifi took out the Blazer Stakes at her most recent run at Flemington and Heathcote said the mare was thriving in Melbourne ahead of Saturday's 1400m assignment.

Heathcote won the Group One Toorak Handicap with Solzhenitsyn last Saturday, a week after Fire Up Fifi scored her Group Two Blazer win.

"Her work at Flemington on Tuesday was brilliant and she's just thriving," Heathcote said.

"She's seemingly gone to a new level, which she had to if she was going to be competitive in Melbourne. Sometimes a trip away can bring these mares on."

Fire Up Fifi defeated Peron at Flemington last start but the John Thompson-trained mare has been installed favourite to turn the tables on Saturday.

Group One Tatt's Tiara winner Red Tracer is second elect while Fire Up Fifi is a $13 chance.

Heathcote decided against a start in the Tatt's Tiara in the winter, instead running his mare in a Listed 1600m race on the same day, which she won.

He believes he made the right call because that victory set her up well for the spring.

"She's got a Group Two (Blazer Stakes victory) in the bag and she'll go into the Tristarc and the Myer Classic as a genuine chance," he said.
