Waller out in force on Kensington track

Sunday 6 October 2013, 3:09pm

Chris Waller dominates Sydney racing at all tracks but has a new challenge with the opening of the new StrathAyr course at Randwick on Monday.

The Kensington track has received rave reports from jockeys who have tested horses on it in recent weeks.

Waller is hoping it is as good as everyone says but admits some horses may handle the all-weather surface better than others, as has been the experience with the Moonee Valley which is also StrathAyr.

"I'm looking forward to it because we need another track," Waller said.

"I just hope they've got it right and it's as good as everyone says it is.

"To have an all weather track will be such an advantage for Sydney."

The shape and design of the 2100m track are the same with the surface consisting of 40,000 square metres of kikuyu grass laid on top of a composition of sand, mesh and peat which sits on top of sand which has been laid on the sandy base.

The new track was completed with the aid of a $1.7 million grant from Racing NSW.

Among Waller's runners at Randwick are early favourites Index Linked in the 1550m Benchmark 78 and Murder Of Crows in the 1400m Benchmark 75.

A former French galloper, Index Linked's three wins have all been in Australia including his most recent on May 11 when he was part of five winners for Waller at the Rosehill meeting.

Murder Of Crows, who has won two of his seven starts, races in John Singleton's colours and is out of Sally Magic, runner-up in the 1999 Magic Millions to Testa Rossa.

There will be free entry to Randwick for defence personnel in mass numbers in Sydney for the International Fleet Review.
