Caulfield Stakes doubt for It's A Dundeel

Saturday 5 October 2013, 1:01pm

Leading Cox Plate contender It's A Dundeel is in doubt for the Caulfield Stakes after a foot abscess burst at trackwork on Saturday morning.

The Murray Baker-trained last-start Underwood Stakes winner is scheduled to have his next spring start in the Group One Caulfield Stakes (2000m) but the foot issue has thrown those plans into doubt.

"He got a foot abscess which came up on Thursday that we were treating and we thought we got on top of it but this morning when we galloped him it burst, it blew out," Baker's stable representative Emily Murphy said.

"We're just working on it, poulticing it and trying to get it right but it's a day-by-day thing and we'll see how he goes.

Murphy, who is with It's A Dundeel in Melbourne for the spring, said it was too early to say whether the star four-year-old would line up in the Caulfield Stakes.

"We're just going to see how he goes at the moment, just play it by ear. We want to get him 100 per cent before we press on with anything," she said.

The issue isn't expected to put a Cox Plate start in doubt for the five-time Group One winner.

"I wouldn't imagine so. It's just in the foot which is treatable. I'm pretty positive about it," Murphy said.
