Conservatorium, already a much-travelled sprinter, starts an ambitious campaign aimed at winning races on both sides of Australia when he resumes in the Moir Stakes at Moonee Valley on Friday night.

A three-time Listed winner, Conservatorium is scheduled for at least two Melbourne spring appearances with his second visit pencilled in for Caulfield Cup day.

He will return to his Adelaide stable between Melbourne runs ahead of a trip to Perth for the Group Two Lee Steere Classic followed by the Group One Railway Stakes.

That's if everything goes according to plan.

Co-trainer Lloyd Kennewell says Conservatorium's program depends on flight availability and if they can't get a plane to Perth in time for the Lee Steere, he'll look for another race in Melbourne before heading to Ascot at a more leisurely pace.

"He's a good horse, well travelled, and enjoyed himself in Brisbane and Perth last year. He handled it really well," Kennewell said.

Conservatorium ran a close second in the Group One Goodwood behind Platelet in May and followed that up with another second to Galah, beaten just a nose, in the Group Two QTC Cup in Queensland.

Between his QTC Cup placing and Centenary Mile placing at Eagle Farm, Conservatorium won the Eye Liner Stakes at Eagle Farm.

Kennewell said Friday night's field looked pretty even to him.

"He'll run a really honest race," Kennewell said.

"If we can get a good barrier and a good run, it makes half the difference."

Defending Moir Stakes champion Buffering heads the list of potential opposition which also includes outstanding mare Snitzerland.

The Jason Warren-trained Bel Sprinter goes into the Moir with a faultless first-up record.

He five wins from as many starts when resuming include a last-to-first victory in the Group One Galaxy (1100m) in Sydney during the autumn.
