Guy Walter's leading Epsom Handicap contenders Streama and Toydini will be given barrier trials on Monday in preparation for their lead-up runs to the Group One mile.

The trainer opted not to run dual Group One winner Streama in Saturday's Chelmsford Stakes won by Hawkspur, preferring to keep her ticking over for the George Main Stakes with the softer option of the trial at Randwick.

The mare had little rest after a Brisbane campaign and had a tough run in the Warwick Stakes when she was edged out by Veyron.

"I thought the trial was better for her than running in the Chelmsford," Walter said.

"She had such a hard run two weeks ago in the Warwick Stakes.

"She's very fit but she has been up a long time and I don't want to give her one run too many.

"I want to make sure she is right for the Epsom."

Emerging star Toydini will go to the Epsom via the Cameron Handicap at Newcastle on September 19.

The four-year-old ran an eye-catching fifth in the Warwick Stakes at his first spring outing and is on the second line of TAB's Epsom betting with his stablemate at $10 with Sacred Falls the $9 market leader.

The pair's stablemate, triple Group One winner Appearance, will make a delayed start to her spring campaign in Saturday's Sheraco Stakes at Rosehill.

She was due to resume in the Toy Show Quality at the Warwick Farm feature meeting on August 24 until she tied up in the lead-up.

Tying up causes muscle soreness but Walter said the mare had recovered fully and was ready to begin her preparation aimed at a defence of the Myer Classic at Flemington.

"She's fine. She got over it quickly," he said.

"She goes to the Sheraco and then the Golden Pendant and we'll decide after that whether she has another run in Sydney or goes to Melbourne."
