Desert Jeuney in line for G1 Metrop start

Saturday 7 September 2013, 2:30pm

Desert Jeuney will wear blinkers in his next outing despite a strong-finishing win in the Sofitel Girls' Day Out 2000 Handicap at Flemington on Saturday.

The win made it three in a row for the four-year-old as he was nursed throughout the 2000m race until jockey James Winks found an inside run at the 500m.

Trainer Nigel Blackiston says he will take the horse to Randwick for the Group One Metropolitan over 2400 metres on October 5.

"When he hit the front he was a little bit green still and got a little bit lost," Blackiston said.

"When the gap opened he took it, and when he took it, he looked around and wondered where he was.

"With blinkers on he'll improve even more."

He said Desert Jeuney ($5) still had a lot of improvement left in him.

"We have nominated for the Metropolitan and on today's win that is definitely on the cards," Blackiston said.

"If he can get that far that might be his swan song or we might push on and see what happens."

Anagold ($16) which made its move at the turn was beaten a nose with the favourite Keep Cool ($4.40) a half-neck away third.
