Oasis Bloom out to qualify for Cup start

Thursday 5 September 2013, 3:58pm

The comeback of Oasis Bloom continues in Saturday's Let's Elope Stakes at Flemington with the Group Two winner targeted at a Caulfield Cup start.

The five-year-old mare spent 41 weeks on the sidelines after suffering a bone chip in the Group One Myer Classic last November where she ran a brave fourth.

Her first race back was in the Group Three Cockram Stakes (1200m) on August 17 at Caulfield where she finished seventh behind Octavia.

Co-trainer Peter Morgan thought it was great effort.

"It was a good run - she wasn't beaten by far," he said.

"She raced a bit fresh early and shouldn't have been that close to them on the turn because she was never going to sprint with them," Morgan said.

"On Saturday I'm expecting a bold showing and I think she will be amongst it."

Last year Oasis Bloom went on to win the Group Two Stocks Stakes after contesting the Let's Elope (1400m) but Morgan expects to take a different route this time in an effort to qualify for the Caulfield Cup (2400m).

"We'll see what happens on Saturday, whether we go to the Stocks or head in a different direction," he said.

"I wouldn't mind getting her in the Caulfield Cup if I could. She has run over 1700 (metres) and has always shown she could run a mile and a half."

Morgan also has Lucky Penny in the Let's Elope and her main mission this campaign will be the Myer Classic.
