Suspension stands as Berry loses appeal

Tuesday 27 August 2013, 3:30pm

Tommy Berry has lost an appeal against the severity of careless riding suspension, ruling him out of the ride on the Queen's horse Carlton House.

Berry was suspended for eight meetings at Canterbury last Wednesday after being found guilty of two separate charges.

He was hoping to have one charge downgraded to have his ban reduced by one meeting so he could ride Carlton House in the Tramway Handicap at Randwick on September 7.

A weight-for-age winner in England who also finished second to Australian star So You Think in the Prince Of Wales's Stakes at Royal Ascot, Carlton House is set to resume racing in the Tramway.

The entire's only start for Gai Waterhouse resulted in a down-the-track effort in the Ajax Stakes.

Berry will join Waterhouse's No.1 jockey Nash Rawiller on the sideline for the Randwick meeting as well as the Wyong Gold Cup on September 6.

Rawiller was suspended for six meetings after pleading guilty to careless riding at Hawkesbury last week.

His suspension starts after Saturday's Caulfield meeting where his main ride will be the 2012 Melbourne Cup runner-up Fiorente in the Memsie Stakes.
