Snitzerland to gallop at Moonee Valley

Sunday 23 September 2012, 3:46pm

Unbeaten colt Pierro has grabbed most of the headlines ahead of racing at Moonee Valley on Friday night, but the filly who finished second to him in the Golden Slipper is a star in her own right.

Snitzerland will have a familiarisation trip to the Valley on Monday morning ahead of the Champagne Stakes on the same program as Pierro's target, the Bill Stutt Stakes.

While Pierro is being stepped up in distance towards the Caulfield Guineas (1600m) and Cox Plate (2040m), Snitzerland is on a sprinting campaign aimed at the Group One Coolmore Stud Stakes (1200m) at Flemington.

She has claimed two stakes wins from two starts this spring at Rosehill and Flemington and trainer Gerald Ryan believes her winning streak can continue.

"She looks terrific," Ryan said.

"Chad Schofield will take her around the Valley in the morning.

"Ahdashim is running in the Moir Stakes and he will also have a gallop."

Corey Brown will be back aboard Snitzerland on Friday night after missing her last-start win in the Group Two Danehill Stakes through suspension.

Damien Oliver rode her in that race and the free running filly added a new dimension to her repertoire when she was held up and tucked in behind horses to avoid the howling head wind on the day.

Pierro will not take part in the official gallops on Monday but may have a trip to Moonee Valley later in the week for a look around.

His jockey Nash Rawiller said he had no concerns as to how the colt would handle the track.

"He worked at Randwick the reverse way of going on Saturday," he said.

"He's done that for his last four or five gallops.

"There will be no problems with Moonee Valley."
