High-profile horses to trial at Randwick

Thursday 30 July 2020, 3:07pm

A number of high profile spring carnival hopefuls are set to ramp up their preparations towards feature races in the new season at a rescheduled barrier trial session on Randwick's Kensington track.

Three heats for Group horses which had originally been scheduled for Tuesday were pushed back three days because of wet weather are set to be staged on Friday morning.

Entries include Group One winners Con Te Partiro, Dreamforce, Kolding, Kings Will Dream, Probabeel, Fierce Impact and star New Zealand mare Melody Belle.

Mark Newnham has some of his stable's spring hopes entered to trial including Group Two-winning sprinter Splintex who the trainer has high hopes for in the 2020-21 season which begins on Saturday.

The Newnham-trained Group winners Quackerjack and Greysful Glamour are also down to trial on the morning.

Splintex capped his three-year-old season with victory in the Group Two Arrowfield 3YO Sprint at Randwick in April.

Newnham has feature sprints in mind for the rising four-year-old and is hopeful Splintex's form early in his campaign will be strong enough to snare a slot in The Everest.

Featuring in the entries for the same trial as Splintex is the Gai Waterhouse and Adrian Bott-trained mare Con Te Partiro who won two Group One races during this year's Sydney autumn carnival.

Trainer John Thompson has stable stalwart Dreamforce, winner of the Group One George Ryder Stakes during the autumn, scheduled to have his first trial of his preparation.

Dreamforce is on a path towards a first-up tilt at the Group One Winx Stakes at Randwick on August 22.
