Streama wins barrier trial ahead of spring

Monday 5 August 2013, 5:47pm

Victory in Monday's star studded Group One barrier trial at Rosehill on Monday went to Streama, but trainer Guy Walter wasn't getting carried away.

The mare finished a length to the better of Sacred Falls with Sincero, Hawkspur, Shoot Out and Foreteller coming home in that order.

Streama could come up against many of them again with Walter and her owners considering the Warwick Stakes (1400m) on August 24 as a starting point rather than the Toy Show Quality (1300m) at Warwick Farm on the same day.

"She jumped straight to the front and did it easily but they went pretty slow time and I don't know that you can take much out of it," Walter said.

"She didn't have long off and she will have a short spring in Sydney with a view to a more intense program in the autumn.

"The Epsom Handicap is one of the races she'll be entered for in the spring."

Streama clocked a leisurely 56.5s for the 900m trial while newly turned three-year-old I'm All The Talk ran 53.8s, the fastest of the heats over the distance.

Damien Oliver made the trip from Melbourne to Sydney to ride in the trials for Chris Waller and Gerald Ryan.

Oliver is serving a suspension for a betting offence and will begin riding in races next month.

Among those he partnered at Rosehill was the Waller-trained multiple Group One winner Shoot Out and stablemate Kelinni, fourth in the 2012 Melbourne Cup.

Kelinni ran fourth in his trial which was narrowly won by the Lee Curtis-trained Robard from Doomben Cup winner Beaten Up who could head to the Memsie Stakes in Melbourne later this month.
