Ross continues QTIS bonus money plunder

Wednesday 15 July 2020, 1:18pm

Trainer Les Ross continued his plunder of QTIS bonus money when tough filly Hancora Field scored at Eagle Farm on Wednesday.

Ross has won 11 QTIS races for two-year-olds this season which has accrued $250,000 in bonus money.

Leading the way has been Hancora Field a Deep Field filly who cost Ross's biggest owner Mick Crooks $100,000 at last year's Magic Millions Yearling Sales.

Hancora Field ($2.70) jumped the lead and held on to beat Boom Spender ($5.50) by a neck in the QTIS 2YO Handicap (1200m).

Ross said Hancora Field would continue to chase QTIS prize money as a three-year-old next season.

"I didn't expect her to be my best two-year-old but that is the way it has turned out," Ross said.

"She is up to about $180,000 (prize money) but there is a lot more to come.

"I have had a bit of luck with two-year-olds this season but next season I am expecting a really big year. I have about thirty well bred yearlings about to turn two."

Hancora Field's win continued the recent run of success for apprentice Jackson Murphy.

He was expected to be Brisbane's leading apprentice this year but a series of setbacks stalled his career.

Murphy is now apprenticed to trainer Kelly Schweida and has had a steady stream of winners in recent weeks.
