Cruden Bay to race on in Melbourne

A new life in Singapore has been at least postponed for unbeaten colt Cruden Bay who could begin his spring campaign in the Danehill Stakes at Flemington.

Trainer Anthony Freedman expected Cruden Bay's Singapore owners to transfer the colt to his brother Michael at Kranji after it won the second of its only two starts in the autumn.

But Freedman reported this week that Cruden Bay is back in his Flemington stables being prepared for a spring campaign that is set to begin with the Group Two Danehill over 1200m at his home track on September 7.

He said the colt had matured well and could be stretched to the 1600m of the Caulfield Guineas if he ran up to his potential.

"He's strengthened up into a nice three-year-old, but we've still got to see if he's up to it," Freedman said.

Cruden Bay won a Bendigo maiden at his first start and followed with a two-length victory in the Listed St Albans Stakes at Moonee Valley.
