Belle Couture out of action until summer

Friday 26 July 2013, 5:41pm

Black Caviar fans will have to wait to see her younger half-sister Belle Couture on the racetrack with her debut delayed until at least the summer.

The Redoute's Choice filly has been sent to the spelling paddock after her first preparation with trainer Danny O'Brien and will not return until mid-September.

A $2.6 million yearling at the 2012 Easter Sale, Belle Couture is owned by BC3 Thoroughbreds who also bought her full-brother for $5 million at this year's sale.

O'Brien, who has a coastal property at Barwon Heads in addition to his Flemington stable, said he was pleased with the filly's progress,

"She got close to a trial, but then she just started to feel the pinch," O'Brien said.

"She's in the paddock now at Barwon Heads.

"I thought she did a really good job. She started late and it was her first prep, so she couldn't have done any more. We were very pleased with her.

"She'll be out probably for about six weeks and we'll start again with her. It's looking like she wouldn't be having a start until after spring."

Earlier this week, Black Caviar's owners announced the unbeaten mare would be served by Exceed And Excel this spring.

She was retired after her Australian record 15th Group One win in the TJ Smith Stakes, her third elite victory from three starts in 2012-13.

Black Caviar's three-year-old half brother All Too Hard, the winner of four Group One races this season including three at weight-for-age, is the biggest challenger to the mare being named Australia's champion for a third consecutive years.
