Home track running double for Yargi stable

Saturday 21 March 2020, 2:05pm

Mornington Cup day has proven a special one for Amy and Ash Yargi who have recorded a race-to-race double at their home track.

The pair had only two runners at Saturday's meeting and were successful with Jamaican Hurry in the Macpherson Kelley Handicap before I'm Telling Ya came from the tail of the field to win the Mercedes-Benz Mornington Handicap.

Jamaican Hurry backed-up her victory at the mid-week meeting at Flemington on March 4 while I'm Telling Ya landed his first win in three years.

Both horses were ridden by Dean Yendall.

Amy Yargi said the stable in frustration had began calling their second winner, I'm Teasing Ya.

"He looms up, runs the quickest times of the race every week but just can't quite get there," she said.

"He's as honest as anything and we're just so thrilled for him to break through after such a long time."

After scoring successive victories, Yargi said the stable may now look interstate in a bid to claim a stakes race with Jamaican Hurry, a four-time winner from 14 starts.

"It's lovely seeing her put it all together as we've had a lot of faith in her," Yargi said.

"She's been slow to mature and I'm just rapt that the owners persevered with her.

"She's been a long time coming but we always knew that she was capable of this.

"We might try and target a stakes race for her in Adelaide. I think she's up to it and she's in great form so it'd be great to get a bit of black-type with her."
