Turf hero Sea The Stars sires first winner

Tuesday 23 July 2013, 11:27am

Champion racehorse Sea The Stars secured his first winner as a stallion as Mark Johnston's Stars Over The Sea made it third-time lucky at Ayr.

A winner of eight of his nine starts for John Oxx, Sea The Stars enjoyed a spectacular three-year-old campaign as he clinched six Group One prizes in as many months, including the 2000 Guineas, the Epsom Derby and the Prix de l'Arc de Triomphe.

Retired at the end of 2009, Sea The Stars now stands at the Aga Khan's Gilltown Stud in County Kildare and his first crop of two-year-olds have taken to the track this season.

Stars Over The Sea had shown ability on his first two appearances and was a 1-2 favourite to get off the mark in the three-runner EBF./33 Racecourses Live On Sky 432 Maiden Stakes.

Always travelling powerfully in the hands of Joe Fanning, the youngster quickened up to lead heading inside the final two furlongs and galloped all the way to the line to beat Longton by three lengths.

Winning owner Roger Brookhouse said: "I don't think Sea The Stars has had many runners yet, but to have the first winner is great.

"I think everyone was a fan of Sea The Stars, how could you not be?"
